Inga Bean
Fruit pods brown, roughly hairy and become dry as they ripen. Fruit pods are like an over grown bean, containing an edible white pulp which is naturally segmented into bite sized portions containing green 3cm seeds which may start germinating in the pod. Takes 3-4 years to fruit.
Habit - Medium sized ornamental tree has dark green pinnate leaves, having a reddish bronze colour when young. Trees can be deciduous or evergreen depending on climate.
Size - 6-8 metres in NZ.
Pollination - Fragrant white spikey fluffy flowers appear spring through to summer. Self-fertile tree but if there are two or more trees the yeild will be higher.
Harvest - Autumn to winter.
