Avocado Hass
Hass is the variety we all know or have heard of. A larger tree than the newer Cleopatra™ variety, although Hass can also be trimmed to maintain a smaller size, it still provides a good-sized evergreen tree with a thick canopy with large dark green leathery leaves.
Hass produces medium-sized oval-shaped black fruit with a black pebbled skin. The fruit is a deliciously rich, nutty flavour. The flowers are light yellow/green appearing in abundance in spring. Harvest is from November to March.
Avocados prefer a warm sheltered sunny position with good drainage. Add blood and bone and plenty of organic matter when planting, and apply mulch after planting (and annually) to support a healthy root system.
